Sarah Shapiro, LCSW-C

Get to Know Sarah Shapiro, LCSW-C
Sarah Shapiro, LCSW-C, was born and raised in Baltimore, MD.  A graduate of Yale University, she received her Masters of Social Work (MSW) degree from the University of Maryland School of Social Work and Community Planning.

​Sarah has over twenty years of experience providing short-term social work consultation services to clients of all ages in a variety of settings. Since 2005, Sarah has served as Beth Israel Congregation’s 
Shleimut Social Work Consultant, providing short-term counseling, information and referral services, and educational programming to congregants and school families.  Sarah also works as the In-House Social Worker for Beth El Congregation and The Soul Center, assisting the clergy with outreach to sick and bereaved congregants, promoting Soul Center programming, and providing in-person and telephone counseling sessions to congregants and Soul Center participants upon request.

From 1998-2017, Sarah was employed by Jewish Community Services (JCS), providing social work consultation services to several local Jewish day schools, as well as to Camp Louise during the summer months from 1999 to 2005. 

Prior to joining the staff of JCS, Sarah worked first as a Program Officer in the area of Health and Human Services for the Abell Foundation and then for Baltimore County Department of Social Services as a School-Based Social Worker at Milbrook Elementary School. 

​Outside of work, Sarah enjoys using her planning and problem-solving skills as a volunteer for non-profit organizations.  She was the founding Board President and continues to be an active Board Member of Art with a Heart, a non-profit organization that brings visual arts classes to underserved communities in and around Baltimore.
